Our after-school STEM VEX Robotics & Coding Program for the 2024-2025 school year will reintroduce the students to the VEX Robotics systems, a coding construction system that provides hands on computer science and computational thinking that combines STEM, Computer Science and robotics to life and taps into children’s natural inquisitiveness which allows students to get started coding quickly and easily utilizing a plastic construction system that can receive commands from a smart phone, tablet or laptop.

The concepts will enable the students to build and program their own robots with the ability to receive commands directed by the students using tablets, computers and smart phones.

Previously, we introduced the students to Lego Mindstorms, a software platform produced by Lego for the development of programmable robots based on Lego Building Blocks. Each version of the system includes an intelligent ‘brick’ computer that controls the system, a set of modular sensors and motors, and Lego parts from the Technic line to create the mechanical systems.

These students learned the following concepts, which enabled them to build and program their own robots with the ability to receive commands directed by the students using tablets, computers and smart phone:

  • State Logic

  • Momentum

  • Friction

  • Tolerances

  • Material torsion
